Balls are plastic and glued together. Plastic lost its shiny metallic finish very quickly (making me wonder if that metallic stuff rubbed off inside me). They broke open when dropped and I couldn't trust the balls to stay together when snapped back in place, so I had to throw them away. The glue keeping the strings set in the balls is very hard and because it is along the strings for 1/4^ or so where they connect to the balls
